 Not a big bag Jun 06, 2009
I have owned 4 backpack purses before buying this one. It is no bigger than any of the others. The writer of "A better description would've been nice..." is being unrealistic in finding a backpack the size she's looking for. I've only seen those in clear plastic, filled with candy for the kiddies.
Three things I would have liked better about this bag are an outside pocket for my phone, more adjustability in the straps, and a magnetic snap closure.

I was looking for a purse-sized backpack that I could take to work with me and around town for more casual events (when I don't want to carry a purse on my arm!), so I needed something versatile and durable. This backpack turned out to be exactly what I was hoping for. The fabric will last a long time, and the camel color allows me to wear it with pretty much any color. There is one main zippered pouch and two snap pouches in the front and back of the bag. While I appreciate the attempt at organization, I wish that there was only one snap pouch to allow for larger items to fit in the middle zippered compartment. But overall, I would definitely recommend this bag.

I am VERY disappointed by this product, or rather I should say with Macy's, for their lack of bag size in the product description. To be fair, I must admit that I was looking for a small backpack, similar style to this, but my ideal bag would be, at most, 7" square, 4" deep. Small, yes, but really more space than I'd need. This bag is made of a high quality material (appeared to be somewhat water resistant?) seemed to be well made (did not remove inner wad of stuffing to inspect interior before repackaging it, though) and would probably make someone else quite happy... unfortunately, not me.
The item arrived in a very timely manner (ordered on a Saturday, delivered the following Wednesday) but I was suspicious when I saw the box that the backpack was shipped in. Right off the bat, I knew the bag was bigger than I had imagined. Its actual dimensions, for any future potential buyers, are as follows:
Bag front: 9 1/2" wide X 12" high (to the top of the flap)
Bag sides: 4" wide X 12" high (again, to the top of the flap)
Bag bottom: 9 1/2" wide X 5" high (measured w/ the bag laying on its back)
Top opening can be stretched, with all zippers & snaps undone, to 14" wide
Straps: 30" long, with only 3" for length adjustment via buckle system (3 holes).
I did not measure the bag without the flap closed, so the interior height of the bag is probably about an inch or two less.
I shipped this back today, the day after it was delivered, and am looking forward to my refund just as much as I was looking forward to this backpack's delivery in the first place. Very disappointed, but I guess it wasn't totally Macy's fault for a poor description... I trusted them and bought it anyway, but I now learned my lesson: never buy anything online unless they give dimensions or equivalent size(s) of the item.
